Flash
Flash has been around for years as the dominant player in interactive web content. However it requires the download of a "plug-in" by the web browser to be able to display the content. It can be used to display videos, animations, and for games.
HTML 5
HTML 5 is the newest version of the HTML standard. It will introduce several new features that allow supporting web browsers to display videos and other that currently needs Flash to display. It works completely in the browser without the need to download a separate "plug-in" to display the content.
The Conflict
In almost all of the articles I have read that are in support of HTML 5 over Flash seem to be focusing on features that HTML 5 will introduce that are currently handled primarily by flash, such as steaming videos on sites like Youtube. But Flash can do so much more than just display video. It can be used to make complex animations and games that HTML 5 can not replicate with just code. In my opinion there is room enough on the web for both. Both sides have uses and should continue to be supported by web browsers. Removing support for flash in web browsers will only serve to limit people who wish to develop for that platform.
